Young Writers' Competition

Hi all my name is Gail and I’m currently finishing my last year of highschool so sorry for the inactivity!

I’m here to share a wonderful young writers’ competition I found while browsing at my local library today, because yes I should be studying but why study when you can borrow another three 500+ page books for your last week of holidays? oops….

Anyways the Boroondara council puts on this competition once a year and the winners get both prize money (cashhhhhh!!!!) and are published in the council library anthology for the year.

Each participant can enter a maximum of 2 of the 4 categories, and can submit two works into each category so four works total.

The Junior, Middle and Senior categories are open to people who live/work/study in Boroondara, whereas the Open category is Australia wide.

The Junior category is for those in years 5 and 6 for prose (300-500 words) and poetry (less than 100 lines) with a max prize of $300 for either section.

The Middle category is for those in years 7, 8 or 9 for prose (500-900 words) and poetry (less than 200 lines) with a max prize of $450 for either section.

The Senior category is for those in years 10, 11 and 12 for prose (900-1,300 words) and poetry (less than 200 lines) with a max prize of $600 for either section.

The Open category is for all ages to submit a short story (1,500-3,000 words) with a huge max prize of $1500 wow.

Entries close on Friday August 30th so get some entries in if you want to test out your writing abilities!
