Introducing DAB member: Flynn

So way back when, interviewing other members of the DAB was one of the most, awkward, embarrassing and strange things I’ve ever done. Flynn and I were so tense, and looking back on it, in all honesty it is kind of hilarious. How was there ever a time when we didn’t know these facts about each other? Actually, how was there ever a time when we were this uncomfortable talking to each other? To be honest, I’m not sure, but no matter, here we have an extremely awkward and factual interview with DAB member, Flynn!!!!

What’s your favourite type of book to read?
Well I enjoy a bit of everything, fantasy, YA – crime is also good. Anything that is fast-paced!

What’s your favourite crime novel?
I read a really good one lately called I Am Pilgrim and it was really interesting and fast-paced. It was long but I read it in a few days.

Do you do any writing?
I do. I love writing, I feel like I’m always writing. I’ve finished my first novel which I self-published and I’ve finished my second novel which is in the final stages of editing.

What’s your [published] book called?
It’s called New Beginnings and it’s science fiction which is odd because I don’t read a lot of sci-fi.

What’s it about?
It follows the life of these two twins as they wake up one morning. When they wake up, the world has succumbed to a disease called Plactocidus and they must train their brain in the rigours of time travel in order to reverse the effects of the disease and stop it from originating over a year and half earlier on the other side of the globe.

How did you come up with the idea?
I don’t really know! I started writing it with no real plan as to how I was going to finish the story, then it started to unfold as I kept writing and the ending just happened!

Is the name of the disease based off of anything?
No, it isn’t actually. I was doing some research and then discovered that lots of diseases end in -itis and it was based off of that. I wanted to make it something really different.

What’s your best tip for writing? Since you’ve finished two novels already.
I just love writing, so for me it is easy. But the best thing to say is just get started. I spend a lot of time with DAB member, Aahana, and she has so many ideas, but she just needs to put words to the page. Don’t overthink characters and don’t over-complicate things.
